Thank you for your interest in employment at Blanche River Health. The following information provides an overview of our recruitment process to help you find employment with our facility.

Job Posting

Current opportunities at Blanche River Health are posted on this website. Applications must be submitted by 4:00 p.m. on the day the job posting closes to careers@blancheriverhealth.ca. Applications received after the closing date may still be considered. All applicants must submit a resume. Please notify Human Resources of any accommodation needs you may have during the recruitment and selection process as Blanche River Health is committed to providing accessible employment practices that are in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (‘AODA’).

Application Screening and Selection

Applications are screened against the criteria outlined in the job posting. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.

Employment Reference Checks

Candidates selected to move forward in the recruitment process will be required to sign a Reference Authorization Form and provide Human Resources with three professional and/or work related references.

Vulnerable Sector Check

Candidates under consideration will be required to provide a new Vulnerable Sector Check or Criminal Record Check - dependant on the position applied for.

Occupational Health Information

Every employee is required to provide proof of immunization and laboratory evidence of immunity for the following communicable diseases: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella zoster, hep B and seasonal influenza. Documentation is also required for proof of tetanus immunization and proof of two-step TB test. An employee health assessment is part of the hiring process.

Offer Letter

Once the references and background checks are complete, the successful candidate will receive a written offer letter from the Human Resources department.

General Operations

If there are no current vacancies that you wish to apply to, please submit a resume to careers@blancheriverhealth.ca specifying your area of interest. We will review the general applications if no suitable applicants have applied to the open position. All general resume submissions will be kept on file for six months.

Health Benefits

Full time employees at Blanche River Health are offered a cost-shared benefit package which includes Semi-Private, Dental and Extended Health Care coverage through ClaimSecure (Kirkland Lake site) and Desjardins Financial Security (Englehart site).

Insurance Benefits

Full time employees are also offered Disability (short term and long term) and Life Insurance benefits. Some employees are eligible to participate in Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage. There is also the opportunity to take advantage of group rates for additional Voluntary Life Insurance for themselves and their spouse. These benefits are offered through the Ontario Hospital Association and Desjardins Financial Security

Part-time and Casual employees receive an additional percentage on their earnings in lieu of health and insurance benefits.

Full-time Non-Union and Management employees are eligible to enroll in a Health Spending Account in addition to the aforementioned health benefits.

Retiree Benefits (cost share) are also available to full-time staff who participate in the benefits programs upon retirement.

Employee Assistance

The Hospitals provide all employees, as well as their eligible dependents the support of an Employee Assistance Program through LifeWorks Inc. (Morneau Shepell). This service is available 24 hours per day, seven days per week and offers confidential counselling, resources and referral service.

Pension

The Hospitals participate in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP), a defined benefit plan, is available to all employees immediately upon hire. 

As community partners, Blanche River Health is committed to providing quality education experiences for students in clinical and non-clinical settings.

 

Placements include:

1. Co-operative (Co-op) Placements

Co-op placements are open to students who are enrolled in a co-op program through their high school. All co-op placements are organized between local school administration and Blanche River Health's Human Resources Department. Co-op placements are accepted in the following departments only:

  • Corporate Services (i.e. Finance, Human Resources, Materials Management etc.)
  • Support Services (i.e. Maintenance, Food Services, Environmental Services etc.)

2. Post-Secondary Student Placements

Placements are possible in many disciplines including, but not limited to: Radiology, Laboratory, Pharmacy, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Information Technology, Maintenance, and Health Records.

Process for Student Placements from a recognized University or College:

  • All placements for students are coordinated by the academic placement coordinator at their respective University or College.
  • An affiliation agreement will be established with the requesting school and Blanche River Health
  • Required Documentation prior to beginning placement:
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Up-to-date immunization record
    • Proof of BCLS
    • Up-to-date mask fit testing record

3. Non-Clinical Placements

Requests will be considered for learning opportunities in non-clinical areas. For more information or to request a placement, please contact the Human Resources Department.

4. Summer Student Opportunities

Blanche River Health will hire summer students as opportunities become available. To be eligible for these opportunities applicants must be enrolled full time in a post-secondary program.

5. NOSM Summer Studentship Opportunities

Blanche River Health hires summer students in to clinical areas through the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (“NOSM”) Summer Studentship Program (“SSP”). Students must apply for these opportunities directly through the NOSM SSP. Please contact NOSM directly to inquire about these opportunities.
