Grateful Patient Gives Back: A Story of Exceptional Care at Blanche River Health
Celebrating the commitment of healthcare workers at Blanche River Health and their positive influence on patients.
Blanche River Health Foundation (BRHF) is proud to announce a donation from a grateful patient, Danielle Genier, and her husband, Serge, following Danielle’s remarkable experience with the hospital’s emergency services. Danielle's journey began on February 13, 2024, when she arrived at the Kirkland Lake Emergency Room, suffering from severe kidney stone pain that ultimately required two surgeries and multiple treatments over six weeks at both Blanche River Health (BRH) and Timmins & District Hospital.
Throughout this challenging period, Danielle encountered a series of dedicated healthcare professionals who made a lasting impact on her recovery. From a locum doctor at BRH coordinating her initial care and surgery arrangements to Dr. MacPherson and Dr. Spiller administering intravenous antibiotics over three evenings and Dr. Jordan’s quick action to resolve post-surgical complications, the staff at both hospitals provided unwavering support and care.
Danielle shared, "Despite the challenges our healthcare system faces, my experience at Blanche River Health was a testament to the dedication and professionalism of its staff. I was never dismissed or mistreated; instead, I was met with compassion and respect at every turn."
In recognition of the exceptional care she received, Danielle and Serge have decided to donate to BRHF to support the Emergency Room and to the Timmins & District Hospital Emergency Room and Day Surgery Unit. Their generosity reflects a deep appreciation for the hospital's staff and a desire to give back to the communities that cared for them during a difficult time.
BRH President and Chief Executive Officer, Jorge VanSlyke, expressed her gratitude, saying, 'We are incredibly grateful for Danielle and Serge’s generous donation and for Danielle sharing her story. It highlights the good work of our medical professionals. This gift will directly support our Emergency Room, enhancing our ability to provide high-quality care to our community.'"
John Sullivan, BRHF Board Chair, echoed this sentiment: "Donations like Danielle and Serge’s not only help improve our services but also inspire others to contribute. Their story is a powerful reminder of the impact our hospital staff has on the lives of our patients."
Danielle’s story is a celebration of the exceptional staff at BRH and an invitation to the community to get involved. Whether through donations (big or small), volunteering, or simply sharing experiences, every contribution helps build a stronger, healthier future for everyone.
The Blanche River Health Foundation raises funds for equipment and capital projects at the Englehart and Kirkland Lake sites. With limited government funding for these needs, the hospital relies on community donations to modernize facilities and equipment. As a registered charity governed by a volunteer board of directors, the Foundation depends on people’s generosity to support essential improvements, enhance patient care and support the hospital’s mission to make healthcare work for you.
