Dr. Scott Daley, who has been caring for Blanche River Health (BRH) patients as a locum physician since 2020, has now joined BRH full time. This brings the number of new staff physicians added in the past 12 months to three, announced Jorge VanSlyke, President and CEO. 

Dr. Daley, who earned his Doctor of Medicine from Dalhousie University in Halifax, will serve as hospitalist at the Englehart and Kirkland Lake sites of Blanche River Health.  

According to Daley, the relationships he built with his BRH colleagues over the course of his locums was a key driver in deciding to settle in the area permanently.

“I have long felt supported by BRH colleagues who collaborate every day to deliver care to this wonderful part of the province," said Daley. “It is this team-based culture that drove me to grow some roots in the community.” 

According to VanSlyke, recent physician recruitment wins speak to the unique opportunities at BRH and the communities the hospital cares for.

“We are fortunate to be a rural hospital with an in-house CT Scanner, Operating Room and world class medical equipment, not to mention a caring, friendly workforce,” she said. “I’m grateful for community leaders who have formed the Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee to help attract physicians to Blanche River Health and the communities we serve. While we are pleased with recent successes, we remain underserviced and there is a lot of work to do to increase the number of permanent physicians to the area.”

The Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee was formed in 2023, with municipal, business and community representatives, together with physicians, the Kirkland and District Family Health Team, Blanche River Health and the Blanche River Health Foundation, working together as a team to attract physicians to our area.
