The Magic of Christmas Brings Joy and Support to Blanche River Health
Over $50,000 raised benefiting the Blanche River Health Foundation and the Royal Canadian Legion.
The Magic of Christmas fundraising week, held November 18 to December 1, transformed Kirkland Lake’s Royal Canadian Legion into a winter wonderland to raise funds for local causes. Organized by dedicated volunteers, the event featured activities like the Snowflake Ball, tree and wreath auctions, and a festive breakfast with Santa.
With the community’s incredible support, the event raised over $65,000, benefiting the Blanche River Health Foundation (BRHF) and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 87. The week’s proceeds will fund new chairs for BRH’s palliative care suites, providing more comfortable furniture for families supporting their loved ones at the end of life.
“Community events like this highlight the strength of local partnerships,” said Jorge VanSlyke, BRH President and CEO. “These new chairs will make a meaningful difference, providing comfort and support during challenging times. We are incredibly grateful for the support of The Magic of Christmas.”
The Snowflake Ball was a resounding success with BRHF Executive Coordinator, Cassandra James, welcoming BRHF board members, BRH team members and board members, and special guests to the event. “The Magic of Christmas reminds us of the incredible talent and generosity in our region,” said Sandy Austin, BRHF Director. “Every ticket sold and auction bid brought us closer to enhancing healthcare for our communities.”
James reflected on the spirit of the season: “It was clear that this event was truly a labor of love. Seeing so many people come together to give back during the holidays is what makes it magical.”
BRHF extends heartfelt thanks to the local businesses and sponsors whose generous contributions—financial and in-kind—brought the Magic of Christmas to life. Their support ensured the event’s success and impact.

The week featured ticketed events, auctions (online, live, and silent), and a stunning display of over 25 decorated Christmas trees and wreaths, along with unique, handcrafted items from local artisans. The Legion was transformed into a magical winter wonderland, welcoming the public to join in the festivities starting November 28th.
The volunteer committee included: Carol Hartley Penfold, Heather Jean Taylor Sandrin, Angela Chisholm Angelicchio, Natalie Ross Perrault, Linda Grimaldi and Michelle Whelan, along with a large decorating committee and a group of volunteers who made jams, jellies and preserves.
