New CEO at Blanche River Health

January 6, 2023

The Blanche River Health (BRH) Board is pleased to announce the appointment of Jorge G. VanSlyke as the new President and CEO effective April 11, 2023.

“On behalf of the Board of Directors of Blanche River Health, I am thrilled that Jorge VanSlyke has accepted the role of President and CEO,” said Chester Jobson, Board Chair, Blanche River Health. “Ms. VanSlyke’s extensive experience in health care leadership roles in Northern and rural communities makes her an ideal fit for this challenging role, and we look forward to welcoming her and her family to the area.”

Jorge is a Certified Health Executive and a Registered Social Worker in Ontario with Masters of Social Work (2012) and Public Administration (2020) from Dalhousie University. She has been in executive / management roles for over 10 years, and is the incumbent CEO of Atikokan General Hospital (AGH) in Northwest Ontario. At AGH, she oversees a spectrum of health and community services ranging from acute care / emergency, telemedicine, long-term care, mental health and addictions programs, rehabilitation, and ambulatory / outpatient services.

Jorge’s professional background includes overseeing community hospitals and long-term care homes, with clinical experience in community organization, child, youth, family services and assisted living for seniors. Her career to date spanned multiple countries and Canadian provinces including Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, and Yukon Territories.

Jorge has an insatiable curiosity when it comes to learning health care systems and best practices in health care. She is currently a surveyor for Accreditation Canada and an emergency response volunteer for the Red Cross.

Jorge will be fully relocating to the District with her family in July 2023.

“The Board would also like to thank Joan Brazeau for her invaluable support during this transition period,” added Jobson.  “We appreciate her leadership and we wish her all the best in her retirement.”
