Blanche River Health Receives Organ Donation Award
The contributions Blanche River Health (BRH) clinicians have made to increasing organ and tissue donations in Ontario have been recognized by Ontario Health (Trillium Gift of Life Network [TGLN]) with an Outstanding Achievement Award, announced Joan Brazeau, Interim President and CEO of BRH.
“Almost 1,400 Ontarians are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant, and we should all be proud of the impact Blanche River Health employees have made responding to this critical need,” said Brazeau. “I know I speak for untold patients and families when I congratulate them for their outstanding results.”
BRH achieved a 94 per cent routine notification rate throughout 2021/2022, which means clinical staff notified Ontario Health (TGLN) when a patient died and there may be potential for organ and tissue donation in 94 per cent of cases.
High notification rates are essential to the success of the mandate of Ontario Health (TGLN) to save and enhance more lives through the gift or organ and tissue donation. In 2021/2022, Ontario contributed to 807 essential organ transplants thanks to 302 organ donors and 1,885 tissue donors.
“The success of organ and tissue donation in Ontario relies on the hard work and dedication of our health care partners,” said Rebecca Cooper, Vice President, Ontario Renal Network and Trillium Gift of Life Network, Ontario Health. “Blanche River Health has made an outstanding contribution to organ and tissue donation and this award is a reflection of their commitment to continuously working to save lives through organ and tissue donation,”
“While Ontario continues to make great strides in responding to the need for organ and tissue donation, it’s important to recognize the role of patients and families in making selfless decisions during difficult times,” added Brazeau. “
One organ and tissue donor can save up to eight lives and enhance as many as seventy-five more. Every Ontarian has the opportunity to demonstrate their support for this life-saving work by registering their consent to organ and tissue donation at BeADonor.ca.
Blanche River Health is a 74-bed hospital corporation with two sites serving the North Eastern Ontario communities of Englehart (26 beds) and Kirkland Lake (48 beds) as well as residents in surrounding areas.
