Blanche River Health is committed to patient safety and continuous quality improvement. This mentality is engrained in the way we work, at every level and in each corner of our organization. Measuring our performance against provincial and national benchmarks is a key part of our quality improvement journey.
In this section, you will find information about our quality improvement plan, patient safety indicators, and our participation in Accreditation.
Blanche River Health reports on several key patient safety indicators as required by the Province of Ontario.
These indicators include:
- Clostridium Difficile (C. Diff)
- Methicillin Reistant Straphylococcuss Auereus (MRSA)
- Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE)
- Hand Hygiene
In addition to the above, our Kirkland Lake site reports on:
- Ventilator Associated Pneumonia (VAP)
- Central Line Infections (CLI)

Blanche River Health is Accredited with Accreditation Canada. This national Accreditation process, which our sites participate in on a regular basis, ensures that we are providing the safest and highest level of quality care and service possible.

The Excellent Care for All Act (ECFAA), 2010, requires public hospitals to implement Quality Improvement Plans based on Health Quality Ontario’s Quality Agenda. These plans are submitted to both Health Quality Ontario and Ontario Health on an annual basis.
